Access to Research

Issue: Barriers to access can prevent researchers from discovering the latest developments in their field.

Critical research resources are often hidden behind a barrier of prohibitively expensive license fees meaning that most researchers cannot access the resources they need.

Solution: Deposit research outputs and data in our institutional repository. Seek publication in open access journals such as BioMed.

Institutional repositories provide preservation and access to enable researchers to comply with their funder's policies. Open access journals facilitate a faster, wider distribution of the latest scientific discoveries.

At the library: Follow our links below for information, tools & resources
  • Our Institutional Repository collects and preserves the University of Guelph's intellectual output, ensuring long-term preservation and access
  • The library hosts a number of open access journals. We will continue to support new initiatives in the area of open access publishing.
  • We provide resources to allow our users the most up-to-date information on access issues. Follow this blog for regular updates.
